About Us

Woods Valley Ski Area was born out of a passion for the sport of skiing. Built on the site of Dopps Run, Dave Woods started Woods Valley in 1964. Using just a rope tow, a J-bar and a T-bar, the area offered skiing for the beginner, advanced and expert skier. There was a modest lodge and the first grooming equipment employed was actually pulled manually as Dave skied ahead of the home-made roller. During heavy snowstorms, Dave would lead the young alpine ski team athletes in "boot packing" the slopes.

Dave's creative can-do attitude still thrives at Woods Valley, and much has changed in our industry and at the mountain over our 48 years. Two double chairlifts, several additions to our base lodge, state-of-the-art snowmaking and grooming, extensive lighting for night skiing and riding, three terrain parks and a new Snow Tubing area have all been added to make the experience on and off the snow a great one. Woods Valley Ski Area has been teaching families to ski for 48 years. We are very excited to offer you and your family a wonderful skiing and riding experience for years to come.

Last season Woods Valley enhanced the beginner skier/snowboarders experience with a new Sun Kid Wonder Carpet (conveyor lift) in our Learning Zone. We have also added a new website, additional Low-Energy snowmaking equipment, and expanded retail offerings. This season we invested once again in the beginner experience by adding a new Carousel and new rental equipment. We are also proud to offer an entirely new option to your winter activities with our Tubing Park! The park will boast its own snowmaking, Sun Kid Wonder Carpet, lighting and tubing lanes shaped by our snow grooming equipment!
