Watkins Mill State Park

A 100-acre lake with a paved bicycle path around it, plentiful fishing, a picturesque campground and choice picnic spots make Watkins Mill State Park an ideal place for an afternoon or longer. Located near the Kansas City area, the park has ample fishing opportunities and an abundance of whitetailed deer and wild turkeys to watch. The park is adjacent to theWatkins Woolen Mill State Historic Site, a National Historic Landmark.

Camping

Watkins Mill has 96 campsites, 74 with electric hookups. For a little extra space, try one of the park's family campsites. Five sites (three electric and two basic) are accessible for campers with disabilities. The park also has a special-use camping area.

Fishing

Bass, catfish, crappie and sunfish are plentiful in Williams Creek Lake, which has a boat launching area with a courtesy boat dock. Boat motors used on the 100-acre lake are restricted to 10 horsepower or less. An accessible fishing dock is located near the western end of the dam. A permit must be purchased at the office for night fishing.

Boat Launch

Gain access to Williams Creek Lake via the park's boat launch and courtesy boat dock. Outboard motors in excess of 10 horsepower must be operated at slow, no-wake speed. A nearby hard surface parking area is available for vehicles and trailers.

Swimming

A large sand swimming beach is located at the north end of the lake near the picnic areas. A change house is located near the beach. Swim at your own risk.

Picnic Areas

Choose from three picnic areas with tables and grills or several additional picnic tables and grills located along the bicycle trail near the beach and the shelter house area. Picnic areas are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

- Open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day

Fox Hunt Picnic Area
 - Open daily from April 1 to Oct. 31

PLAYGROUND
