Five years ago God planted an idea within two watermelon farmers to try something new. Steven Dixon, a long time farmer and rancher, was talking with his niece's husband, Scott Thomas and mentioned that he had been thinking about trying to grow some pumpkins. Much to Steven's surprise, Scott told him that he had been considering the same thing and already had seed in hand waiting for the right opportunity to try it. The two got together and along with help from their wives, decided to give it a try and "see what would happen".
The reason the two seasoned farmers were so unsure about the new fruit was because pumpkins historically do not grow well in Florida. The pumpkin and other related gourd varieties thrive in a dry cool climate and Florida is anything but dry and cool.
So with a lot of hard work, research and prayer we set off to see if we could get pumpkins to grow and boy did they! The first year was nothing more than a miracle. We were shocked at how God had brought forth a crop that was not supposed to survive and allowed it to thrive. That first year we agreed that as long as God decided to bless us with a crop, we would make sure that we give Him all the glory for the harvest. We definitely work hard and do our part but we fully recognize Him as the ultimate farmer of our fields.
We are now preparing for our 5th season with great excitement. This season we will be offering several new varieties of pumpkins and gourds along with our corn maze, hayrides and hay fort. We strive to provide a family friendly atmosphere where people of all ages can come enjoy the farm. We hope that you will come visit us this fall!
