About Us

Sweetbrier Park began in 1968 as the dream come true for Oregon-native Bill Krauss. His lifelong passion for trains led him to purchase with his wife Marie the 19 acres in Scio/Lyons area, southeast of Salem, OR. Over the years, he built a train station, laid 1/2 mile loop of 2ft. gauge track, installed a bridge, cleared large areas for picnics and parking, established RV sites and planted some trees and foliage to create the perfect Oregon wooded experience for visitors from near and far.

Features

The train park now consists of more than a 1/2 mile of 2ft gauge 20 lb. steel track. It has three engines: the Audrey K, a model A engine; Lit'l Bill, a Wisconsin engine; and Wilhelm, a Volkswagen engine. It has over 30 cars to carry riders throughout the park and to the picnic and event areas. Bill and Marie devoted their lives to creating happy memories for Oregon families. Bill lived his dream at Sweetbrier Park, died in 1998, and left it for us to enjoy.

Today

In 2012, Dustin and Keri Anderson & family purchased the park.  Our dream is to build on the atmosphere that Bill and Marie Krauss created.

We spent our first summer updating and refurbishing the park as well as adding many wondrous forest creatures to enhance the train ride  particularly over Halloween!

We also added an outdoor movie theater to be enjoyed during the summer months for campers  Every weekend in October we have to Pumpkin Patch Train Ride.
