Smithfield Figure Skating Club

109 Pleasant View Avenue
401-233-1051

The Smithfield Figure Skating Club was formed by a group of local skaters in 1976, and two years later became a member of the United States Figure Skating Association, the national governing body for figure skating. SFSC, a non-profit organization, offers skaters (3 years old through adult) skating instruction and off ice conditioning sessions. Programs run year-round at the Smithfield Municipal Ice Rink. SFSC offers sessions in basic skills, moves in the field, freestyle, power/edge and ice dance. Off ice sessions are also offered in dance and conditioning.

During a typical winter season, SFSC has 18 hours of ice weekly, offering sessions for the recreational skater through the competitive skater. Sessions are regulated by test levels and caps are set on the maximun skaters allowed on the ice to help prevent accidents.

In August 2003, SFSC offered a basic skills coaches training session, and in October 2003 a jump harness training session.

SFSC hosted the New England Figure Skating Championships in 1987 and 1992, and holds the Basic Skills Competition and the Smithfield Open annually. For the past 25 years, SFSC has held the Annual Figure Skating Exhibition to benefit the American Diabetes Association, allowing all club members to skate for fun without the pressure of competition, and inviting family and friends to enjoy the show.
