About Us:
Potters Way is a seasonal business that consists of a country retail store and large hoop barn on over 5 acres in the country outside Oakes, ND. Our store contains unique decor (think junking meets country) and other seasonal decorating ideas.
Because we think working full-time year-round is for the birds, we've chosen to run a business that is open seasonally during our favorite time of the year.
While this may be hard to understand, the following reasons make it clear why we run our business this way:
The animals don't belong to us so four weeks is about all we can manage
Flowers die, corn fields wither and pumpkins get mushy if we happen to get an early frost; We'd rather not chance it
Our family's mainstay is farming so it's hard to find a tractor driver during harvest
So, instead of trying to understand us, just get on board and come visit! (We've also heard being open only a short time creates a sense of urgency!)
Our Story
We have lived on this farm for close to 40 years. The idea for Potters Way started with a wild hair and the retirement of the current pumpkin patch owners in Oakes. There are days we wonder exactly what we're doing, but ultimately we realize it was God's plan for us. We truly believe that the simplicity of country living is lost on most people and we want to share it with the world. (OK, at least the folks in SE ND.)

Our business mainly consists of Tom and Jean Rodine (us) and our daughter, Rebecca. Tom's experience in farming, Jean's green thumb and abundant talents in all things crafty, and Rebecca's business sense work together. At least so far, we've grown some pumpkins, sold some merchandise and have paid our taxes on time! We only survive with the help and support of our wonderful extended family and great friends. We hope you enjoy the time you spend with us and make visiting our farm a family tradition that will last for years to come!
