Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens

Located on the "Big Island" of Hawaii, this 12 acre zoo is the only tropical rainforest zoo in the United States. It is home to more than 80 animal species including the endangered Nene (Hawaii State Bird) and Namaste', a white Bengal Tiger. The links on the left will take you to interesting information on many of the Zoo's animal exhibits.

You are invited to picnic in the shade of over 100 varieties of Palm or stroll with Peacocks in the extensive collection of Orchids, Clumping Bamboos and Tropical Rhododendrons. The planting effort by volunteers is continuous and the Zoo grounds are considered a botanical garden. Use the links on the left to view samples and information from this remarkable landscape.
