About Us;

The Knickerbacker Ice Arena was built in 1990. Since its construction, the arena has been home to many junior and pro level hockey clubs.

The Capital District Islanders, then affiliate of the NHL's NY Islanders, used the Knickerbacker Arena as a training facility from 1991-1994/95 before being sold and making way for the Albany River Rats, AHL affiliate of the NJ Devils from 1997-2000. Along with these clubs, the Knickerbacker Arena was home to the Uncle Sam Junior Hockey organization for close to 8 years, starting in 1991, and also plays host to the Capital District Selects junior hockey club. The NY State High School Club Hockey Championship was held here in 1995, with Uncle Sam as the host club.

In 2004, The Hudson Valley Eagles Junior B team made the Knickerbacker Park Ice Arena their home . Boys between the ages of 16-20 play a highly competitive schedule in the Metro Junior Hockey League. Beginning, September 2005 another Junior elite level will be making their home at the Knickerbacker Ice Arena. These two teams will be hosting some very exciting games beginning in the Fall of 2005. Our Eagles Junior B team won the league title this past year and came home with the "Bronze" medal from the Junior National Tournament. The team won the "National Sportsman Trophy of the Year" award. We are proud to have this team of boys from all over the country residing in Troy and using the Knickerbacker Ice Arena as their home.

The arena has available 5 team locker rooms, including the only all female facility in the area for the Troy/Albany Icecats. Today the venue continues to be a prominent home for area youth hockey clubs and also a training facility for college clubs in the area.
