The East New York Farmers Market is a community-run market including 23 local gardeners, 3 regional farmers, and 11 local vendors. Together we serve over 14,000. Since 1998 we have been providing fresh produce, homemade and crafts and a safe public space for families in East New York, Brooklyn. Our market is the only place in East New York to find local and organic produce and Caribbean specialty crops like karela, bora, and callaloo.
Local vendors meet monthly to plan the market and make decisions about the project. Vendors, cumulatively, provide over 120 hours of volunteer work. Their outreach to the community includes market advertisement, event planning and educating local residents about food justice.
