History:
The market was started in 2003, and at the time, it was one of only five markets in the Cincinnati area. Today there are over 35 and counting. In the beginning, a local resident that made jams and jellies contacted a few farmers with the idea of starting a market in Deerfield Township. Four area farmers thought it was a great location, and they joined together. Since then, it has continued to grow, and now there are now 10-15 vendors selling depending on the week.
For eight years the market was held at the old township office building on Montgomery Rd. It was later moved to the beautiful Kingswood Park, where there is plenty of green space and a large parking area. There has been great support and encouragement from the local residents and the market improves each year.
The market is a grower/producer only market. Only produce or farm products produced by the farmer/vendor can be sold. This ensures the customer is getting local, fresh and great tasting products. The customer can talk directly with the farmer and find out how the product was raised. Is the meat raised humanely? Do you spray or is it organic? You can get to know your farmer personally.
In 2013, the market hired a market coordinator. Sarah Pyles brought ideas and activities to the market that we did not have in the past, such as music, kids activities and special events. What started out as a commitment to quality, local, freshness and honesty continues to blossom. With a wonderful location and dedicated community members, the market is becoming a gathering place on Saturday morning for neighbors and families. It is an exciting time to be at the Deerfield Farmers Market!
