About

In August 1990, the Camarillo City Council approves plans for a Camarillo Certified Farmers’ Market in the parking lot of the Senior Nutrition Center on Ventura Boulevard. The Market will be held on Saturday mornings between 8:30 and noon. It will be sponsored jointly by Camarillo Hospice and the Pleasant Valley Hospital Auxiliary, and 3.5% of the gross proceeds each week will be shared by the two nonprofit agencies.

- On Saturday, March 2, 1991, a ribbon-cutting ceremony marks the opening of the Camarillo Certified Farmers’ Market.

- Early founders of the Market include: Susanne Benson, Tony Boden, Maggie Erickson (now Erickson-Kildee), Ed Hertenstein, Sue Hurley, George Meyer, Janet Rotenberg, Jane Rozanski, Joyce Schroeder, Colleen Scott, Adele Strauss, Galena White and John Willits.

- John Willits is the first Market Manager. He is followed by Ed Hertenstein.
