The Aspen Skating Club has long been an important part of the Aspen community. Â After skating on a flooded rink for a couple of winters, the Brown Ice Palace (aka the Aspen Ice Garden) was built in 1963 (after Ruth Brown, wife of D.R.C. Brown, a former President of the Aspen Skiing Company from 1958-1979). At the same time, The Aspen Skating Club was formed. Â The Club officially joined the United States Figure Skating in 1965 after one-year probationary membership. Â In 1993 the Club became incorporated as the Aspen Figure Skating Club. At the same time we applied for our tax-exempt status 501(c)3. Â Its home rink at the Aspen Ice Garden has provided a base for generations of recreational and competitive figure skaters, judges and officials. Â ASC is fortunate to combine a small, friendly club atmosphere with elite level coaching. Â Now we are delighted with the addition of a new state-of-the-art facility at the Aspen Recreation Center, a world-class training center: the Lewis Ice Arena. Â Over the years, the Aspen Skating Club has produced a number of national competitors and gold medalists. Â Our membership includes competitors from tots to teens to adults, recreational skaters; Professional Skating Association rated coaches and US Figures Skating certified judges. Â The Club works closely with the City of Aspen recreational program and has an active Basic Skills program for new skaters. Â On the regional level, ASC is a member of the Mile High Figure Skating Association, together with figure skating clubs throughout Colorado. Â Â Since its founding, the Aspen Skating Club has delighted locals and visitors alike with its popular skating shows.
