5 Gorgeous Beach Campsites in Maine

Maine has 3,478 miles of coastline along the Atlantic Ocean plus thousands more around its many lakes, ponds, and rivers. With tons of campgrounds dotting the state, you’ll certainly find some beautiful beachside campsites in Maine. Wake up to the sounds of the loons calling in Western Maine or the seagulls squawking along Maine’s rocky coast.

1. Cape Neddick Oceanside Campground

Cape Neddick Oceanside Campground on picturesque Cape Neddick Harbor in York is the perfect place to park your camper or pitch your tent for a few nights. Their oceanfront sites offer incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean. Wake up to the smell of the salty air and the shouts of the lobstermen as they haul in their catch. Nearby Short Sands and Long Sands beaches are a great place to sunbathe and Nubble Light is always a beautiful place for an afternoon picnic.

2. Lake Pemaquid Campground, Damariscotta, ME

Located on Lake Pemaquid near the Atlantic Ocean in Damariscotta, Lake Pemaquid Campground has 200 campsites plus cabin and cottage rentals. Everything from RVs, trailers, and tents are welcome at this beautiful campground with great lakefront sites. The campground has a sandy beach for swimming, boating, and fishing as well as a large swimming pool and hot tubs. The on-site marina rents boats so you can get out on the peaceful lake for some watersports or just some fishing. 

3. Somes Sound View Campground, Mount Desert, ME

Open seasonally from May through October, Somes Sound View Campground has incredible views of Somes Sound and Acadia National Park. This idyllic and peaceful campground welcomes tents and campers. Small tents are welcome to camp near the ocean while larger trailers and campers will have to park around the freshwater quarry or heated pool. No matter where you lay your head down at night, you’ll have incredible views of one of the prettiest parts of Maine.

4. Allagash Wilderness Waterway

The Allagash Wilderness Waterway in Aroostook County is one of the United States’ premier canoe trips. Consisting of 92 miles of waterway, the region was designated a National Wild and Scenic River System in 1970. Henry David Thoreau even visited the region in 1857. There are 81 fire safe campsites throughout the waterway that are marked and equipped with all the necessities. If you’re looking for adventure and are willing to rough it, camping along the Allagash Wilderness Waterway is truly magical. You just might wake up to a moose bathing in front of your tent!   

5. Searsport Shores Oceanfront Camping, Searsport, ME

With a quarter-mile private oceanfront beach on 40 acres, you won’t find much better in Maine! At the Searsport Shores Oceanfront Camping in Searsport, you’ll get to experience tidal pools, sandbars, and Maine’s idyllic rocky coastline. The campground accommodates everything from large RVs to small tents along the ocean beach. There’s a boat launch, kayak rentals, nature trails, boardwalks, and even an art studio. Searsport Shores Ocean Camping is the place to go if you want to wake up to an exquisite sunrise.
